TOGETHER WE FLY, TOGETHER WE SAIL

El Salvador’s sailing story is one of vision, grit, and swift progress. Bordered by the Pacific and powered by the steady thermal breezes of our volcanic lakes, the country joined the international circuit barely twenty years ago, yet quickly earned a reputation for punching above its weight. The launch of Optimist and Laser programs in 2005 planted the seeds for a vibrant talent pipeline; today, graduates from that first generation are coaching the athletes who will raise the blue and white flag at the SSL Gold Cup.

Our team is a blend of youth and experience: young sailors with international potential alongside seasoned mariners who once led the federation as presidents and kept the sport alive through their dedication. The sailors come from San Salvador and the communities surrounding Lake Ilopango, which has become the heart of our sailing development.

This is El Salvador’s first appearance in the SSL Gold Cup, but our athletes bring with them experience from Central American Games, Pan American Games, and World Championships. Leading us is our captain Enrique Arathoon, a three-time Olympian who embodies the determination and passion we bring to the water.

We draw inspiration from our surfers, whose “Surf City” mindset reminds us to meet every wave with courage. Our goal is to show that a small flag can cast a long wake—competing with heart, representing with pride, and bringing back stories that will inspire a new generation of Salvadoran sailors to dream even bigger.
